The Willow Pattern tells a tragic romantic tale of two lovers: Koong-se, a wealthy Mandarin’s daughter, and Chang, her father’s humble assistant. Forbidden to marry, they elope across a bridge, flee by boat, and eventually die, only to be transformed into two immortal, flying doves by the gods
My artwork represents heartbreak and sadness, inspired by the willow pattern. I have integrated porcelain, rhinestones and metallics into the painting for a contemporary style and to represent the depth of feelings the character expresses.
